Happy New Year!

Hoping that you all had a great Christmas!

Due to the holidays, I have not quilted much at all.  That is  ok though,

I am enjoying the break.  In the meantime though, I have been doing

other forms of crafting.  Crocheting is one of those forms and I made 2

of these owl hats for 2 very special little girls.

I found the free pattern online,at Ravelry.  You must create

an account but there are tons of free patterns for you to use.

It only took an hour or so to make and they look so cute.

Happy New Year!  See you next year.

Merry Christmas!

Well, the big day is almost  here.  Hope that you are all ready for it.

The weather here is not co-operating at all- ice has been our normal now for

2-3 days.  I shouldn’t complain at all because I still have heat and electricity.

Last week, I quilted a T-shirt quilt for a friend.  She too was completing the

quilt for a dear friend.

Barb's T-shirt quilt

Barb did a great job and I was happy to get it done on time for her to

make the binding and add it to the quilt.

This is one of the blocks that made up the quilt.  Who can reisist

Homer?  Although, I am not a fan of his.

Soccer ball

The owner of these T-shirts loved soccer so I had to make

sure that I stitched at least one soccer ball into the quilt

somewhere.

I used a polyester thread for the top and backing.  Whatever color

made up the block, that is what I used.  This lessens tension issues quite

alot and makes my job easier.

Sister's wallhanging #1

Sister’s wallhanging #1

Here is one of the 4 wallhangings that my sister wanted me to

do for her LAST year.  I seem to be behind in alot of things.

It is a cute panel she picked up at Len’s Mills.

Wallhanging #2 turned out pretty cute too.

I really like the poinsetta’s on this wallhanging.

These two wallhangings above were quilted on my longarm but

the next one I will  show you was quilted on my domestic Janome.

Now, I remember once again why I bought a longarm.  I really

dislike having to move the fabric like crazy. And my neck was not

happy with me when I was done.

Again, another panel from Len’s Mills.  Hoping

that she will like them all.  I am sure that she will be

surprised that I have 3 of the 4 finished and only 1 year late.

I hope that you enjoyed this eye candy.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas count down

Are you ready for the big day?  I am almost there but am still trying to complete

some quilts for customers.

These two were brought in last week by Linda.  She is a terrific piecer.

Linda's Tree wallhanging

Linda’s Tree wallhanging

This is a really great way to use up scraps and make a cute

and quick Christmas wallhanging too. I wanted to do something

fun so I added swirls inside the tree itself.

Swirls for the tree

Swirls for the tree

For the trunk, I tried to mimmic the lines of  bark on a tree.

Tree bark stitching

And I  stitched  the wind blowing in the cream area.

For the outer border, I stitched in trees.  I wanted to fill in the “tree”

area so that it didn’t look like an arrow.

Trees in the outer border

It adds a bit of texture to the whole wallhanging.  I used different

thread colors, to match the area I was quilting.  A variegated green thread

on the tree, cream in the cream area and green for the outer border.

Linda also brought in a red and white table topper.  I knew that it needed some

extra love and care too.

In the center white star area, I stitched small swirls to help

make that area stand out a bit more.  The area beside that received

straight lines to help emphasize that area as well. Diamonds and squares

were stitched in the outside red and white border-just to mimmic the

shapes of the piecing itself.

And the white square areas, were quilted with a star in the middle and

more swirls around it.  Again, copying the pieced star in the middle of

the wallhanging.

Red and white polyester thread were used for the top and back.

Back of the wallhanging

I really like how the back of the tabletopper looks as well.

If you get tired of the front, just flip it over and you have a

totally different looking table topper.

The Christmas count down is on, have fun getting ready for the big day.

Have a great week!  Merry Christmas!

Christmas eye candy

I have decided to show you a few more Christmas quilts and wallhangings that

are hanging out at my house.  Some of these are quite old but I still love them anyways.

One of my first quilts

This wallhanging is a panel that I found, it must be at least 10 years old.

I hand quilted it  and added the red binding to finish it off.

another older wallhanging

This pattern is one of Thimbleberries, I think.

I changed it up a bit and added the embroidered

snowman in the middle.  Usually, it is quite the

conversation piece, due to what is written in the middle,

by the snowman.

I couldn’t resist stitching the “flakes” into the top too.

Everyone gets a chuckle out of it.

Recent wallhanging

Recent wallhanging

This is a recent wallhanging that I completed this year.

The pattern has been around for a long time but I

didn’t like how it hung on the wall-too stiff and wavy for me.

I had used an ultra Heat and Bond and I didn’t like the finished product.

My sister gladly took it off my hands for me.

Here are some of the embellishments that I really like:

crocheted snowflakes

crocheted snowflakes

I love snowflakes and so I had to crochet some and put on

the wallhanging.  A bit of silver metallic bits  and crystals help

the snowflakes to shine.

jingle bells

The horse needed some bells on his neck.

owl and snowman

And the snowman needed  a hat and mittens, as well as an owl for

company.

my house

And what front door doesn’t need a wreath and shrubs by the front door.

I had fun with the embellishments.

One thing I wanted to ask everyone though, what do you think of the

Go Cutters?  I am seriously thinking I may purchase one but am trying

to work out all the pros and cons.  Any opinions?  Does anyone have one?

Do  you think that it is worth the price?  And why?

Have a great week.

Ruth

It’s beginning to look alot like Christmas.

This is a wallhanging that I managed to finish a few years back. Because we are now in the Christmas Season, I thought that you might like to see it.

Snowman wallhanging

The snowmen were actually printed onto one piece of fabric.  One lady I knew, made place mats out of the blocks.  I chose not to.  Sometimes, I love to see what I can do with panels that have printed blocks on them.  I decided to make a wallhanging.  I used some navy blue fabric that kind of reminded me of snow falling and I think that it works well with the blocks.

My happy snowman

Snowflake

I think that I used a fusible to make the snowflake and attach it to the background. And I used 2 layers of the white fabric so that the navy blue background would not show through as much. A quick and very easy project to make indeed. Now, to make this post a bit more interesting, I also quilted a wallhanging for Judi, but it is not Christmas related at all.

Judi's horse wallhanging

All I was told was “no horseshoes at all.”  Ok, here we go.  Once I began to quilt this, the fabrics helped me out alot.  In the centre section, I merely outlined the horses, grasses and the rocks.

Close up of the horses

Even the horses were stitched so that the shading seemed to be more 3D than what it actually is. I used a golden brown polyester thread on the top and in the bobbin.  Less tension issues when you use the same thread color for the top and the bobbin.

Here is how the stitching turned out for the grass and the dirt.

Because this wallhanging has 2 borders, I decided to stitch some swirls in the inner brown border-just to add some texture that was different from the other border.  The yellow border seemed to be a bit challenging but I decided to  follow the lines of the fabric and it turned out well, I think.

Hope you are enjoying the Christmas season so far.  It seems like it is the season

to shop and eat right now. I am linking up with the Needle and Thread Network

Have a great week! Ruth
