One year anniversary and a give away

It was my one year anniversary of this blog on the 26th.  So, in celebration

of that milestone, I am giving away a snowman pattern.

Pattern give away

It is really cute and so fitting for this time of the year.

You must leave a comment concerning 1 thing  you like about quilting

blogs and 1 thing you dislike about quilting blogs. For example, I really

like the pictures of quilts, great eye candy.  However, I dislike a post that

goes on forever-short and sweet for me, please.

These past 2 weeks, I have been working on Lynn’s Woodland Creatures.

What a beautiful applique quilt!

Woodland creatures

The animals were great and Lynn did a great job with her applique.

She has alot of patience-I don’t think that I would want to take on

such a huge  project.  It is stunning!!

Frog jumping off his lily pad

I did have fun adding a few interesting items to the top-

the lily pad, for instance. And I added a spider’s web to

match one on  the other side of the outer border.

A stitched spider's web

Those were the fun parts.  I did a mixed bag of free motion

quilting for the outer border.

Outer border fill

It consisted of swirls, feathers, pebbles and eyes.  I carried the

same fill on the inside of the border too.  Around all the animals,

I did meandering-to break up the background areas a little.

And, of course, I had to add some feathers somewhere on the

quilt.

Feathers on the vine

This quilt measured in at a whopping 80″x 102″.

I think that is correct-Lynn will let me know if I am wrong.

Blue polyester thread was used for the top and backing.

The total number of hours is approximately between 30-40 hours.

Now, that this baby is finished, I am working on my Trend Tex

Challenge.

Hoping to have it all quilted up and ready to post by next week.

Besides that, I have the itch to try something different so I am

thinking about painting a quilt top.  Yeah, it sounds crazy to me too

but I think I am up for a change.

Oh, please remember to leave an email address so I can contact you

if you win the pattern.  I am planning on making the draw on Friday,

Jan 31.  Good luck!!

Don’t forget to head over to Freshly Pieced for some more eye

candy as well.

So far, so good.

In an earlier post today, I mentioned an applique quilt I was starting

to quilt.  All the ditch work is done and now the fun begins.  It is

always nice to know what you will be quilting on the top but in

this case, the quilt is silent.

I bit the bullet and started quilting anyways.  So far, this is what it

looks like.

I really like the lily pad for the frog.

The spider web is extended a little, just for fun.

And here is another picture.

The one word that keeps jumping out at me is FUN. So, I think

that I will go with that theme.  I hope that the customer likes it too.

Don’t foget to check out Freshly Pieced blog-lots of interesting quilts to

see there.

What I am working on…

Here are a few things that are keeping me busy these days.

Modern theme

Modern theme

I really struggled with piecing a “modern”theme wallhanging but

here it is.  I have some idea of how I am going to quilt it but I am

feeling very stretched already.  The colors are growing on me but the

piecing process was tough as well.  All I did was cut and sew strips together-

I am sure you can tell that.  Stretching can be good, I am told.

Horse wallhanging

This is a birthday present for a special young girl who loves

horses.  I am glad that it is done for her upcoming birthday.

It is funny because I find that panels are so easy to quilt.  All the

designs and patterns just sit there and tell you what to do.

However, other quilts don’t even say a word to you.  I know, I am

talking crazy here but I find it is true. Usually, when I start stitching

on a quilt, some ideas will come to me as I am quilting.  This one, in

particular,  is not saying a word.  Maybe it is the animals.

Woodland creatures

All the outlining is complete and I think that I will have to take the bull

by the horns and just start stitching.  Wish me luck.

Here are some close ups.  The hand stitching is great.  Lynn did a great job.

And the frog is totally cute!

Rosemary Makham, a Canadian, is the designer of the pattern.

I can’t imagine the hours that went into creating this quilt.  It is gorgeous.

Do you struggle with trying to come up with quilting designs?  I am sure

that I am not the only one in this boat.

Happy designing this week.

Back to Work

It’s been almost 3 weeks since I was quilting and I am finding it too

easy to not work.  But I am back at work now and am trying to

catch up.  Last week, I showed you several blocks that I had completed.

Drum roll please.

Here is the top-almost done. There is a little more blanket stitching to

be done but maybe by next Christmas, it will be totally completed

and ready to hang.

Take a closer look at some of the blocks.

I hope that you are not sick  of Christmas memorabilia by now.

This is another finished quilt but not by me.  Joyce brought me this

quilt and it was a delight to quilt.  No creases, ripples or wonky borders

at all.  Everything was nice and flat and square.

I used a polyester thread-gold color-on top and back.

Quirky was the name of the pantograph I used.

Joyce certainly loves a challenge.

Arlene also brought me a cute quilt.

How adorable are these bunnies?

Waterworld panto

In the interior squares, I did a panto titled”Waterworld.”

I know, what a wierd name.  I do love the swirl design though.

The border also was stitched in a swirl design but I echoed around

the swirl to jazz it up a bit.

Outer border area

I used a peach and light purple polyester thread for both

the top and the backing. Around the bunnies, I merely

echoed the shape of the bunnies.  Hopefully, it breaks up

the swirl design and helps the bunnies to stand out.

It is such a cute quilt.  Well done, Arlene.

And one last photo of winter for you.

Frozen tree?

Frozen tree?

Can you tell that I am loving my new camera?

My one year anniversary for this blog is coming up at the end of the month

and I am going to be making a draw for 2 patterns.  I will mention more in my

next post.

Have a great week!

A Brand New Year

I am not sure about you but it is cold here.  And the schools have been closed for

2 days now.  The kids are loving it and I am liking it still too.  Hoping that school

will be in tomorrow so I can get back to quilting.  This may sound terrible but it

has been nice to have no deadlines and just putter around the house for  a while.

Here are some photos I took with my new camera that I got for Christmas.

I am glad that I don’t have to stay outdoors in these cold

temperatures.  Great weather for stitching though.

I am working on this quilt by Nancy Halverson.

I only have 3 blocks left to go.  I am hoping to have

the top completed by the end of this week.  Who knows when

the quilting will actually get done.

Here are some close ups of the individual blocks:

I know that some of the blocks are not finished totally.  Some

are missing buttons or stitching.  I am planning on adding those

embellishments when the quilting is all done.

Over the Holidays, I did manage to complete some Owl hats.

They were crocheted so it didn’t take that much time to complete.

Purple corcheted owl hat

The earflaps were made really long so that they could be

wrapped around the neck and used like a scarf.

The wool I used was really thick so that the hat was quick to crochet.

Due to its thickness and weight, I didn’t have to  line it with fleece for

added warmth.  Yeah!  Thick wool is really easy to use and works up

really quickly.

The pattern was found on the Ravelry.com website and the pattern was

free!  What more could you ask for?

Have a great week and stay warm.
