I Have Upgraded…

Connie made this beautiful Elephant Wall hanging in the fall but I am just

getting to showing you now. I also have a surprise for you at the end of this

post.

Don’t you just love the colors of the elephant? And all those gorgeous Kaffe Fassett fabrics?

Here is what the quilt top looks like when I get it. It feels like a blank canvas to me. This part

of the process is both exciting and scary. Trying to figure out a game plan and waiting to

see how the stitching will bring the piece to life.

Elephant’s trunk

This is my second Elephant that I have quilted. I knew that I wanted to keep the quilting as

realistic as possible.

The outer borders

I was trying to depict dust and swirls around the outside border of the elephant. Connie is a big

fan of Angela Walters, so that was my cue to find motifs that she uses and place them all over

the quilt.

The swirls were used to replicate dust around the charging elephant.

I love the elephant’s feet; I think this is my favorite part of the quilt.

The tusks are stitched using cream So Fine thread and stitched to look as if they are

curvy.

Here is the finished piece. Isn’t it amazing how the quilting brings the elephant to life?

The backing is so cool! I love all the texture the stitching creates. I used different colored threads

on the front to match the colors of the fabrics  that were used to create the elephant.

On the backing, I used the same thread colors as the threads on the front of the wallhanging.

It makes tension issues less of a problem for me. I love his feet; all those wrinkles are so much

fun. Connie liked her elephant so that is all that really matters to me.

This T-shirt quilt was quilted using the Spiral Rings design.

I used a light grey polyester thread for the top.

More cool T-shirts. What a great way to use up all those unused T-shirts.

T-shirt Quilt

The backing shows off the texture so clearly.

 

Here is my surprise! I recently upgrade to the  Gammill Elevate. It can quilt by itself and I can

work on something else while it is working too.

Its only been 2 weeks so I am still learning how to use it. There is a bit of a learning

curve but I am determined to learn how to use it to its full potential.

Lots of ideas swimming around in my head. I am hoping to find some time to play.

Local Quilt Show-Part 2

Here are more  pictures from a local Quilt Show, that happened in September.

Once again, I warn you that there are alot of photos, so you may want to

grab a hot beverage, sit back, relax and enjoy the Show.

I love the colors and straight lines of this quilt.

Sew Kind of Wonderful

A Sew Kind of Wonderful ruler was used to create this quilt. I love the pattern and quilting  of this

quilt.

Kerry Burke’s Quilt

Kerry Burke is a local lady who is quite the accomplished appliquer. Whatever she touches

seems to turn into gold. This quilt just won at Quilt Canada, 2018. Congrats Kerry!

Rose’s quilting

Another local lady, Rose  is also an accomplished longarmer. She quilted this for Kerry and did

and did a fantastic job. Congrats Rose!

I love the pebbles and swags stitched onto the quilt.

Brenda’s wallhanging

Brenda is also a very accomplished appliquer and piecer as well. It seems that she also

has a very good eye for color. Love, love. love the flowers here.

It is nice to see close ups of the pieces.

I think this is a Mary Jane Quilt. Look at all those blocks and how tiny they are.

Someone has alot of patience as well as skill at piecing.

The individual blocks are really quite outstanding.

Maple Leaves

I am wondering if Shiva Paintsticks were used to add some color to the Maple Leaves?

Helen’s Wallhanging

This is a tribute to Vimy Ridge, created by Helen.

The embroidered flowers are quite spectacular. Well done, Helen!

Hummingbirds Wallhanging

I love the colors of this piece too.

Look at all that texture!  I have a similar panel that I want to quilt but we will have to

wait and see how long that takes me to get to it.

There were also rug hookers at the Show and here is a sample of what they have been

working on this past year. They also made pieces that reflect Mary Jane Quilts only hooked

into rugs.

A very modern piece.

Winter Wallhanging

I love snowmen and this piece looks like a lot of fun to make.

The skates had actual laces attached to them. And don’t overlook those buttons either.

Cottages

These cottages look like alot of fun as well. Could use one right about now.

Donna quilted this quilt but I am unsure if she made it.

I really love the quilting on this piece, especially in the black center area.

Kaffe Fassett Fabrics

Look at all that color! It definitely must be Kaffe Fassett fabric.

Boxes

I hope that the creators of these quilts do not mind me labelling their quilts. If so, please

forgive me. I didn’t take shots of the labels for each quilt as I went through the Show.

Sue Garman Quilt

Look at all those pieces and how well it was executed!! Wow! This Sue Garman Quilt is

not for the faint of heart. Well done!

Butterflies

A very pretty vintage butterfly quilt and it is hand quilted too. Wow!!

Embroidered Quilt

Once again, embroidered quilts are making quite a mark in the quilting world.

I love the look of the Drunkard’s Path Quilts. I have never made one but maybe it is time.

Kathy McNeil Quilt

I think that this pattern is a Kathy McNeil Quilt. She is winning alot of prizes with

her quilts that depict the Alphabet. So cute too.

Colorful Hexies

I love the colors of this quilt! Wow! I can’t imagine how many hours went into making this

quilt. And each piece is a hexie too. And then, to further complicate matters, each one has to

go into a specific spot. Wow!

for all the pieces were to be done.

Maple Leaves

How can you go wrong with Maple Leaves?

Disappearing 9 Patch?

I know that this isn’t the correct name so someone enlighten me. The colors are

really spectacular , reminds me of the fall colors.

Alphabet Quilt

My husband gave me a Scan and Cut, several years ago. I thought I should use it so I did.

My daughter and I cut out all the shapes and fused them on. The outer border stumped me

for a while but then the Alphabet Song popped into my head one day, and voila, I had the

border figured out. I love pebbles, so that is what is stitched all over the outer border.

I love this wallhanging but would not want to see that outside of my window.

Suzanne’s Quilt

Suzanne is another local longarmer and she created this quilt. I love the colors in it and she

quilted the designs by freehand. That means that she had lots of fun playing and creating the

designs as she stitched.

An Ice Storm…

Here is Southern Ontario, we had an ice storm that barrelled through this

weekend. It was a great time to stay inside and quilt. I hope that you had

better luck with that than I did.

Lynn created this beauty using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. It is very whimsical and the

fabrics are very stimulating. She has been waiting a while to get it back but it is

all done now.

 A Water Fountain

Pebbles was the filler for all the background areas. I thought that they would quilt up

quickly but they didn’t. The borders alone took 3-4 hours each. If you are quilting in

pebbles, take your time. You will get there, one pebble at a time. I must admit that I do

love the look and texture that pebbles or circles make.

Tulip Block

All the blocks and applique on this quilt are quite large so I quilted in some of the

large areas so that they wouldn’t puff up too much. I used a monofilament thread  for

all the SID work and a Bottom Line in the bobbin.

In the sashing area, I outlined the blocks. They are not very large so that is all that this

area needed.

More Floral Blocks

Sorry about the brightness of this photo. Again, you can see the pebbles and the

texture it creates.

The backing fabric is bright and bold; goes well with the whimsical theme of the quilt. I tried to

use a pink thread on the back but you really can’t see what I used due to the print on the fabric.

Prints are great for the backings, especially if you are new to quilting and struggling with tension

issues.

Once again, I thought that you would like to see the whole quilt in all its glory.

I am glad that is is done and that Lynn is happy with the quilting.
